In the summer of 2011, Literature Out Loud was offered as a main component of the summer curriculum for Wiseman Education’s Fun n’ Friends Learning Center in Shenzhen. Three separate two-week long workshops were conducted throughout the summer. 

 

Led by Harvard Graduate School of Education alumna Therese Condit and in collaboration with Wiseman staff, the workshops were attended by 30 students from local primary and secondary schools. Excerpts of poems and prose were used including, Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak, selections from Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein, and All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury. Each workshop ended with a public performance or exhibition inspired by the texts read and reinterpreted as a play, a short musical and a group photography exhibit.
