MEDIA and MEDICINE: How to Tell Stories That Make a Difference – Harvard Medical School Certificate Program

MEDIA and MEDICINE: How to Tell Stories That Make a Difference – Harvard Medical School Certificate Program

DEADLINE JANUARY 9, 2022

The intersection of health and media has never been more pronounced. We now have more media options to share our stories than ever before, allowing us to create compelling narratives that convey both the challenges and the achievements of health care.

MEDIA and MEDICINEHow to Tell Stories That Make a Difference is a Harvard Medical School certificate program for those interested in using storytelling to advance health.

Recent participants have published more than fifty articles and essays, including work on teen suicide in The New York Times, the ethics of rationing during Covid-19 in USA Today, and post-partum depression in STAT News. Others have started novels, plays, and podcasts. All have been closely guided by individual mentors and Harvard faculty with extensive experience in television and film, memoir and personal essay writing, and science journalism.

Led by faculty directors Dr. Neal Baer (award-winning writer and producer of ERLaw & Order SVU, and Designated Survivor) and Dr. Suzanne Koven (Letter to a Young Female Physician and Writer in Residence at Massachusetts General Hospital), this three-part media intensive will give you the tools you need to make an impact.

The next certificate of completion program begins on February 6, 2023.

Our program is designed for health care professionals, medical and public health students, journalists, health advocates, bioethicists, foundation staff, hospital administrators, public health policymakers, writers, activists—anyone interested in telling stories to improve health and make a difference in the world through media.

If this program sounds fantastic, but doesn’t “fit” you just now, perhaps you will consider sending this email along to folks in your network who would love to learn about it.
