Text: Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain by Verna Aardema
In its second year, the Uganda Pre-Texts Book Project led by Carol Auld worked with the book Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain by Verna Aardema. Artistic activities included making and learning about rainbows, back-to-back drawing, creating bows and arrows out of sticks, string and feathers (students collected them on their way to school). Other activities included a choral rendering of the story, a day of predictions (an unheard of concept at the school), geography lessons, and making animals with pipe cleaners. The children also sewed the animals and took them home, a successful activity from last year. Towards the end, the children also participated in a lesson on rhyming (Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain is all rhymes).
